 All About Me lesson plans that are intentional and developmentally appropriate. All About Me  activities, crafts, games, and lesson plans. The theme, All About Me, provides children with the opportunity to answer the all-important question "Who Am I?" Many of the completed activities can be bound into books for each child when the theme comes to its conclusion. young children are very egocentric and tend to focus on their own wants and perspectives. Not to fret, this is completely normal and developmentally appropriate for this age group! As children grow older, they start to develop empathy and are able to see different points of view.

Teaching children to share their likes, dislikes, as well as their talents and struggles, helps other children see how we all are different yet unique in our own way. The intentional conversations we create with young children (learning about their ideas and experiences) help our youngest students build quality relationships and create a sense of belonging amongst each other.

All About Me Lesson Plans

Now that we know why All About Me is such an important theme, let’s talk about what this unit entails! You can focus on characteristics such as hair, skin, eyes, in addition to likes, dislikes, similarities, and differences. This is the perfect time to graph all of their unique characteristics or to make a life-sized tracing of them.

Teaching Feelings

All About Me theme lends itself to so many other themes too. Teaching preschoolers about emotions and feelings is so critical and is the perfect tie-in to any All About Me theme. Guiding children to see how their emotions can cause their faces to take on different expressions… and those expressions give us a clue about how another person is feeling.

My Portrait

Materials Needed: Pre-cut people shapes (like paper dolls) on heavy tag board or cardboard; hand mirrors; markers; crayons, variety of yarn (for hair); scissors; glue

The children use the mirrors to draw themselves onto the cut-out. This is best done is small groups (4 or under) so that you have time to talk with the small group about their eye color, hair color, etc.

VARIATION: One year, a co-teacher had each of the children lay down on large butcher paper and traced each one of them! They decorated "themselves" over several days!

This was a great All About Me Preschool Activities Theme project that was saved for the annual art show! You can hang them throughout your room and have parents try to find their child!

I Like...

Materials Needed: A small picture of each child, magazines, scissors, glue, crayons, construction paper

The children glue their picture on the construction paper. They cut out items from magazines of things that they like such as: dogs, cats, flowers, family pictures, etc.

Me and My Family

Materials Needed: shaving cream and a table!

Encourage the children to smooth the shaving cream onto the table. They can draw a circle and add eyes, nose, mouth hair, etc. They can add their family members, pets, etc.

My Family

An all about me preschool activities potential bulletin board project!

Materials Needed: Sponges in the shapes of people or people shaped cookie cutters, shallow trays of paint and paper.

Encourage the children to sponge or print on the number of people in their family and then print below each one the name of the family member.

All About Me: I Like Myself

Learning Objectives

Students will be able to draw a visual representation of an object, person, or activity. Students will be able to write a three word sentence.

Introduction (10 minutes)

Have all students sit in a circle around a carpet. Hold a ball and tell the students they will be introducing themselves to their classmates by saying their name and stating their favorite thing to do.

Start the exercise by introducing yourself and stating your favorite thing to do. Pass the ball to the next person, encouraging them to do the same.

Explain that today, students will be getting to know more about their classmates.
